Sources and Editorial Standards

E2 Studio's E-2 guides are built from primary U.S. government sources. This page lists those sources and explains how the content is prepared and kept current, so any statement in a guide can be traced back to its origin.

How our content is prepared

E2 Studio is a self-help document preparation tool built specifically for the E-2 treaty investor visa. It is not a law firm and does not represent applicants or provide legal advice.

The guides are written from primary government sources rather than secondary commentary. They are descriptive and general: they explain how the E-2 category works, what consular officers and USCIS commonly look for, and how applicants typically prepare, without directing any individual reader toward a particular course of action.

Figures that change over time, such as government filing fees and statutory investment thresholds, are checked against the issuing agency and carry the date they were last reviewed. Where a guide compares the E-2 with another visa category, that category's own official source is cited.

Primary sources

The guides draw on the following U.S. government statutes, regulations, and official guidance. Links open external government sites.

Statute and regulation

  • INA 101(a)(15)(E) the treaty trader and investor classification in the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(15)(E)), on the Cornell Legal Information Institute.
  • 8 CFR 214.2(e) Department of Homeland Security regulations governing E nonimmigrants.
  • 22 CFR 41.51 Department of State regulations for treaty trader and investor visas.

Keeping the guides current

Each guide carries a last-updated date. When a government source changes, the affected guides are revised and the date is updated.

If a statement no longer matches its official source, the source listed here is the authority; the guide is only the summary.
